Maskells was founded in 1965 by Tim Maskell and is woven into the very fabric of The Royal Borough. We are now the longest established independent firm in The Royal Borough and have sold in excess of £4.5 Billion of residential property.
Tim Maskell was joined by Stephen Copeman in the 1970’s and as a duo, became a pre-eminent force in the marketplace. Synonymous with selling the finest homes in central London, Maskells thrived and put together some of the most notable sales in central London through the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
Of note was an instance when friends from another agency based on Walton Street climbed onto the roof of their offices after dark in order to let off fireworks, congratulating Maskells on achieving the most valuable sale in London that year. Tim Maskell retired, and Stephen Copeman took over the reins, aided by Toby Cholmondley. In 2013, Maskells came into new ownership, with Charles Curran taking the role of Group Managing Director along with business partners Peter Hermon-Taylor and Jamie Hope, Managing Directors and the Lettings and Sales divisions respectively.
In the new vision for Maskells, it was essential that our links to the community and traditional values were retained, but our offering bolstered by fresh investment and cutting-edge technology. Despite the challenges we have faced as a result of Stamp Duty increases, Brexit and a global pandemic, Maskells has continued to cement its’ place in the market, successfully navigating clients through what can be a complex and challenging process.
Our integrity and determination has meant that we have continued to be a force for change in the market, delivering success often where others have gone before. Peter Hermon-Taylor founded the Lettings side of the business in 2013, which is now one of the largest independent lettings books in the area. The property management team, ably headed by Vashti Sperring, provides an outstanding offering. Between Peter and Vashti, they maintain a 98% client retention rate.
Through the success that Maskells has generated, the decision was taken to open Maskells’ second office, on Kensington Church Street. Opening in spring 2022, this second office is a milestone in the long history of Maskells and we are proud of what we have created. Both in terms of the results that we achieve for our clients, but also the culture we have created at Maskells of hard work and fun – you have to enjoy what you do. We look forward to growing the business further and can’t wait to see how well we are doing on our 100th anniversary!
